REMINDER: Residential Service Companies originally licensed by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) must register with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) by January 1, 2024. Such TREC registrations will no longer be valid after this date.
Background: House Bill 1560, passed in 2021, transferred responsibility for oversight of the Residential Service Companies (Home Warranties) (RSC) from the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). This transfer was effective on September 1, 2021.
Since that time, Residential Service Companies licensed under TREC were permitted to continue operating under that registration until January 1, 2024. Any such companies licensed by TREC must register with TDLR on or before January 1, 2024, If registration is not secured by this date, the company may no longer offer residential service contracts in Texas until such registration has been granted.
